According to international media reports, Lil Nas X was seen driving around in only his underwear and cowboy boots. The authorities who responded to the scene realized that he was showing signs of overdose. After resisting authorities when approached by police officers, he was arrested and taken to the hospital.

The charges against Lil Nas X stem from this incident. He was charged with three counts of assault on law enforcement officers and one count of resisting arrest. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

Following his arrest, Lil Nas X was released from prison after posting a $77,000 bail on August 25. As a precautionary measure, the judge ordered him to attend four weekly meetings of Narcotics Anonymous.
