Federal authorities arrest a 48-year-old individual, from the entrance of the NRW prison facilities to within, carried out by the BPOL.

In a recent development, a 48-year-old Georgian man was arrested at Dortmund Airport on May 15, 2023. The man, whose name remains undisclosed in the search results, presented himself at the airport after arriving from Istanbul, Turkey.

Upon arrival, federal police officers took the man into custody following a check of his personal details that revealed an arrest warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Bamberg. The warrant was related to a theft case for which the Regional Court of Bamberg had convicted the man in April 2023.

The Georgian man was shown the arrest warrant at Dortmund Airport and was subsequently transferred to a detention facility. He told the officers that he was unable to pay the fine of 900 euros (plus court costs) that was part of the sentence.

The Regional Court had sentenced him to a fine of 90 daily rates of 10 euros each, or an alternative prison sentence of 90 days. Since he had neither served his sentence nor paid the required fine, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Bamberg had him arrested.

The federal police officers took the man to a police station at Dortmund Airport for further proceedings. For inquiries, the public can contact Pia Leonhardt at +49 (0) 231 / 56 22 47 - 1012 or +49 (0) 173/ 71 50 710, or send emails to [email protected].

It is important to note that the Federal Police Directorate is located in Sankt Augustin, and the Federal Police Inspectorate is situated in Dortmund. For updates and information regarding the Federal Police in North Rhine-Westphalia (BPOL NRW), you can follow them on Twitter at @BPOL NRW.
