Federal authorities in NRW, under the supervision of the national police, conduct arrests over the weekend as enforcement measures in connection with border controls
On Sunday morning, the Federal Police made two significant arrests at different locations in Germany.
In the first incident, a 45-year-old Algerian was stopped at the Niederkrüchten interchange on the A52. The individual was wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Leipzig for armed robbery. Following a thorough search, the Algerian was arrested and taken to the prison in Willich for detention.
Meanwhile, on September 5, 2025, a 34-year-old Afghan was checked by the Federal Police at Viersen station. During the check, it was discovered that the Afghan presented an expired Dutch asylum document. After the completion of police measures at the station, the Afghan was handed over to the prison in Willich for detention.
The Afghan was also wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Traunstein for illegal entry, as it was found during further investigations at the Federal Police Station in Kempen. The Afghan had a fine of 590 euros to pay or a 59-day prison sentence to serve. The Afghan is registered in the Schengen Information System by the Dutch authorities for return decisions.
It's worth noting that the Federal Police Directorate is located at Emmericher Straße 92-94, 47533 Kleve, while the Federal Police Inspectorate is situated in Kleve as well.
In a separate incident, a 32-year-old Ukrainian entered the federal territory via the A3 on Friday. The Ukrainian was wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Gera for a violation of the Law on Ordinary Offenses. The Ukrainian was able to avoid a two-day prison sentence by paying a fine of 40 euros.
These arrests come at a time when the Federal Police have reintroduced temporary border controls at all land-based Schengen internal borders, as ordered by the Federal Ministry of the Interior on September 16, 2024.
The specifics of the current highest-ranking leader of the Bundespolizeidirektion Sankt Augustin were not mentioned in the search results, with only the retirement of the head of the Bundespolizeiinspektion Köln in the vicinity noted.
The Algerian, initially a passenger on an international bus from Brussels to Warsaw, and the Afghan, who had entered the country as a passenger on the Regional Express 13 from Venlo to Viersen, are currently in detention. The Afghan was formally denied entry.
These incidents underscore the ongoing efforts of the Federal Police to maintain security and uphold the law at Germany's borders.
