Federal Government Supports Brothers Grimm Festival in Hanau with €80,000 of Funding

The Brothers Grimm Festival in Hanau is celebrating a significant milestone, as it has been granted permanent federal funding of 500,000 euros within the "KulturInvest" program. This funding is intended for the acquisition of a reusable and sustainable stage system for the festival.

The new funding is seen as recognition of the national relevance of the Brothers Grimm Festival. The festival, which sold a record 92,413 tickets in 2025, is unique in presenting premieres every year.

Mayor Claus Kaminsky, who has been a strong advocate for the festival, compared the federal funding to the federal government's example and urged the state to follow suit. He also expressed gratitude for the new funding and called for an increase in the annual state subsidy for the festival.

The support for the festival was a result of the commitment of Hanau's federal MP Pascal Reddig in recent weeks. Reddig coordinated with the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, Federal Minister of Culture Wolfram Weimer, to advocate for the festival's funding.

The Committee on the Budget of the German Bundestag decided to support the festival with 80,000 euros on a specific date in 2025. The festival director, Frank-Lorenz Engel, expressed great joy and gratitude for the new, institutional funding.

The 42nd season of the Brothers Grimm Festival begins on May 8, and the federal funding was received prior to its start. The new funding is expected to further motivate the festival management, actors, actresses, and all those involved.

Mayor Claus Kaminsky cordially invites Federal President Julia Klöckner and Federal Minister of Culture Wolfram Weimer to the first premiere of the 42nd season. For more information, please contact Dominik Kuhn at 06181 / 3000 6069.

The festival, now in the same institutional funding title as the festival in Bad Hersfeld, is a testament to its growing national significance. The acquisition of a reusable and sustainable stage system will ensure the festival's continued success and commitment to environmental sustainability.
