Federal law enforcement agents apprehend 19-year-old individual lacking a valid transit pass; cell phone theft investigation ensues

On August 16, 2025, an incident occurred on an Intercity-Express train travelling from Hannover to Stendal. A 19-year-old Algerian citizen, whose identity remains undisclosed, is under investigation by the Federal Police in Magdeburg in connection with the incidents.

According to reports, the suspect was found to have stolen a mobile phone on the platform prior to the incident on the train. Witnesses also confirmed that he had tried to access the luggage of other passengers.

The male passenger was identified and taken to the Federal Police offices at Magdeburg Central Station for further investigation. His personal details were confirmed via the police information system.

Upon arrival, the Federal Police initiated a criminal investigation against the man for theft and fraud. After being informed of his rights, the suspect was released following the completion of police procedures.

The train employee informed the Federal Police in Magdeburg, who arrived and confirmed the suspect's actions. It was later discovered that the suspect had previously walked through the train and allegedly opened luggage of other passengers to search for valuables.
