Federal Police Officer Assaulted: 23-year-old Burglar Serves Five-Month Prison Sentence for Resisting and Spitting

In a swift turn of events, a Polish national was sentenced to five months in prison by the Halle (Saale) District Court on June 23, 2025, following a dramatic incident at a supermarket in the city's central station the previous day.

The incident unfolded on June 22, when a suspected thief, who was later identified as a homeless man, was pursued by a store detective after taking a drink without paying. The suspect resisted during the apprehension, physically injuring the detective's arm and causing a commotion.

The suspect continued to resist during the identification process, throwing objects, refusing fingerprint scanning, and spitting on a Federal Police officer. The Senior Public Prosecutor confirmed the provisional arrest of the man, and the expedited procedure for sentencing was initiated by the investigating officers.

The charges against the suspect included theft, bodily injury, assault on, and resistance against law enforcement officers. The sentence did not include suspension for probation.

For further inquiries about the incident, the Federal Police Inspectorate Magdeburg can be contacted. They can be reached via email at [email protected] or by phone at +49 (0) 391-56549-505. The Federal Police Inspectorate Magdeburg's Twitter handle is @bpol_pir.

It is important to note that in Germany, the supreme police authority responsible for prosecuting such criminal matters would be the highest state police authority for that region. The inquiry was transmitted via news aktuell by the Federal Police Inspectorate Magdeburg.

This is a reminder that acts of theft and resistance against law enforcement officers will not be tolerated and will be met with appropriate legal action. The public is encouraged to cooperate with the authorities and report any suspicious activities.
