Festival showcasing exceptional wines, jazz music, and local cuisine in Ellwanger.
Ellwanger Weinfest: A Successful Celebration of Wine and Music
The picturesque town of Ellwangen played host to a delightful wine festival last weekend, as part of the cultural summer event "Summer in the City". The Ellwanger Weinfest, organized by Mayor Volker Grab, Florian Fiedler, Gunter Frick, Eugen Hirsch, and Werner Schießl, was a resounding success, attracting a large turnout, including many visitors from outside Ellwangen.
The festival was held under the open sky, with approximately 500 seats available for visitors, but there were likely over a thousand guests present. Volker Grab, one of the organizers, expressed his delight with the age-mixed audience and the successful course of the event. He extended his heartfelt thanks to Rotochsen-Brauerei for providing the beer table sets free of charge, Allianz Koeder for providing a refrigeration unit, and Michael Höll for taking care of the electricity.
The festival featured an exquisite selection of top wines from various vineyards and wineries. The three outstanding vineyards that participated in the Ellwanger Weinfest were the vineyards from Weingut Bernhard Ellwanger, Weingut Kuhnle, and Weingut Wilhelm. The wines represented at the festival were from Lageder and Schreckbichl wineries from South Tyrol, and Aldinger winery from the Remstal region. Gert Aldinger, the renowned winemaker and former president of the VDP Wuerttemberg, was present at the festival, adding a touch of expertise and prestige to the event.
The festival offered more than just wine tasting. Thuringian and red sausages were available for hungry festival-goers, and the Stadtcafé Höll offered delicious "Original Ellwangen Flammkuchen". The atmosphere at the festival was lively and relaxed, with good entertainment provided by the "Justdixie" ensemble, who played a variety of Dixieland jazz, swing, boogie, and blues. Well-known titles like "When the saints go marching in" and "My bonnie is over the ocean" were among the tunes that filled the air.
Despite initial concerns about the weather, the organizers decided to proceed with the festival, and Mother Nature cooperated, providing a warm summer evening. Volker Grab also summarized that they were overwhelmed by the success of the festival, and he announced that the proceeds from the wine festival will be donated in full to the cultural initiative "Summer in the City" and the support association of the Ellwanger Music School. The five Ellwanger wine enthusiasts, along with their families and friends, contributed significantly to the success of the festival.
The Ellwanger Weinfest was a testament to the spirit of community and the love for good wine and music in Ellwangen. It was a memorable event that will undoubtedly be looked back upon fondly by all who attended.
