Festive Celebrations in Villach's Christmas Day Bring Widespread Joy

In a cultural and diplomatic exchange between partner cities, a delegation from the Cathedral City of Bamberg, Germany, recently visited Villach, Austria. The visit marked a significant occasion, as the 80th edition of the Kirchweih festival was underway.

Last weekend, the Bamberg delegation, comprising gardeners, firefighters, city council members, city administration officials, Mayor Andreas Starke, and Deputy Mayor Jonas Glüsenkamp, made their way to Villach. The group was warmly welcomed by Mayor Martin Treffner, who showed them the Bamberg Town Hall in Feldkirchen, currently being renovated.

Despite the heavy rain, many spectators lined the streets for the parade, which included around 2,000 participants and 55 groups. A highlight of the parade was the presentation of garlic wreaths to Mayors Günther Albel of Villach and Andreas Starke of Bamberg by a group of Bamberg gardeners.

The Fasching guild Landskron Villach appointed Bamberg's Deputy Mayor Jonas Glüsenkamp as the NÄRRity ambassador and presented him with an order and certificate during the parade. The Bamberg firefighters also joined their Villach counterparts in the parade, further strengthening the bond between the two cities.

The visit to Villach was not the only stop for the Bamberg delegation. They also visited Feldkirchen, their other partner city, where they jointly opened the long shopping night. Upon completion, the Bamberg Town Hall in Feldkirchen will continue to serve as a popular cultural center.

The 80th Kirchweih festival in Villach was a grand celebration, attended by the Bamberg delegation to strengthen and celebrate the partnership between the two cities. This cultural exchange is a testament to the enduring friendship between Villach and Bamberg, fostering mutual understanding and promoting cultural diversity.
