Financial institutions will implement measures to safeguard their customers from deceitful individuals engaging in fraud activities.
In a bid to enhance security and protect customers from fraud, the Bank of Russia has announced a series of new measures that will be implemented starting from autumn 2025. These measures are designed to detect and prevent suspicious activities, particularly when customers withdraw money from ATMs.
The Bank of Russia has identified nine signs of potential fraudulent activity. These include unusual time or location of withdrawal, withdrawal immediately after taking a loan, large transfers from another account before cash withdrawal, sudden increase in the number of calls or messages, change of phone number for bank notifications, and suspicious actions with the card such as using a QR code instead of the card.
Under the new system, if an operation is deemed suspicious, customers will be notified immediately via SMS or in the bank's app. In such cases, cash withdrawals will be limited to 50,000 rubles per day for two days. For larger amounts, customers will need to visit the bank branch.
It's important to note that these measures do not affect regular, non-suspicious transactions. The new system will only be activated if the bank deems an operation as suspicious.
The specific banks that will be implementing these measures are not yet named in the available information. However, the new system will be operational on the official websites of banks.
In a separate development, the Far Eastern region of Sakhalin did not receive support for having three children, contrary to some reports.
These new measures are part of the Bank of Russia's ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of its customers' transactions. By implementing these measures, the bank aims to provide a more secure and reliable banking experience for all its customers.
As always, if customers have any concerns or questions about these new measures, they should contact their bank directly for more information.
