Finland dominates Britain in EuroBasket, with Lauri Markkanen scoring a impressive 43 points, resulting in a resounding 109-79 victory for the Finnish team.
In the ongoing EuroBasket tournament, several teams have showcased impressive performances, with Finland, Germany, and Turkiye standing out.
Lauri Markkanen, the Finnish powerhouse, broke new ground with a stunning 43-point display in Finland's 109-79 victory over Britain. Markkanen's performance not only set a new high for him in the tournament but also matched his EuroBasket high, a mark he set in 2022 against Croatia. Unfortunately for Britain, Markkanen fell just four points short of the all-time tournament record of 47 points, set by Luka Doncic in 2022.
Sasu Salin contributed 21 points, all from 3-pointers, while Olivier Nkamhoua added 13 points to Finland's tally. Finland is now tied at 2-0 with Germany and Lithuania in Group B.
Germany, led by Denmark Schroder's 23 points and seven assists, secured a convincing 105-83 win over Sweden. Schroder's impressive performance helped Germany maintain their unbeaten record in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Jonas Valanciunas reached a significant milestone, scoring 500 points in EuroBaskets, playing in his sixth edition of the tournament. Valanciunas led Lithuania to a 94-76 win over Montenegro, scoring 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting. Cedi Osman scored 21 points for Turkiye in their 92-78 win over the Czech Republic.
Turkiye dominated in points in the paint, scoring 50-26 compared to the Czech Republic. Alperen Sengun came close to a triple double for Turkiye, scoring 23 points, pulling in 12 rebounds, and making nine assists in the victory.
In a closely contested match, Kristaps Porzingis started Latvia's comeback late in the third quarter and finished with 26 points in a 72-70 win over Estonia. Matthias Tass and Artur Konontsuk scored 13 points apiece, and Kristian Kullamae added 12 for Estonia in the loss. Arturs Zagars had eight points, six assists, and three steals for Latvia in the win.
Unfortunately for Britain, they dropped to 0-2 in Group B, continuing their struggle in the tournament. Martin Peterka scored 23 points, all from 3-pointers, for the Czech Republic in their loss to Turkiye.
