Fintech company Tangany obtains MiCAR license for regulated cryptocurrency safekeeping

In a significant milestone for Tangany, the Munich-based crypto custodian institution, the company has received the Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation (MiCAR) license. This regulatory framework for the crypto market in the European Union marks a turning point for the European crypto market.

As a recipient of the MiCAR license, Tangany can now offer regulated custody, staking, and transfer services across all EU member states. The license, which applies to Tangany's operations within the European Union, demonstrates the company's compliance with European Union regulations.

Tangany currently holds custody of over three billion euros in assets under custody (AUC), serving more than 700,000 end-users through 60+ institutional clients. The MiCAR license will enable the company to expand its services across borders, providing institutions with a compliant foundation for their activities.

The Series A funding round for Tangany, which raised over ten million euros, played a crucial role in securing the MiCAR license. The funding round, which was announced following the achievement of the MiCAR license, included the participation of German and Austrian financial institutions like Baader Bank and Raiffeisen Bank International.

The MiCAR license may attract more investment and partnerships for Tangany in the European Union. One such partnership is with flatexDEGIRO, subject to final approval, which will be Tangany's first MiCAR-compliant EU partner. This partnership may enable millions of EU investors to access regulated digital asset services.

The initial EU markets for Tangany's strategic expansion include France, Austria, Spain, and the Netherlands. The company's CEO and co-founder, Martin Kreitmair, commented on securing the MiCAR license, stating, "We are thrilled to receive the MiCAR license, which will allow us to expand our services and provide a compliant foundation for institutions and investors across Europe."
