Fire Department of Arnsberg Responds to Chemical Mishap During Toilet Paper Manufacture - Large-scale Nighttime Intervention by the Arnsberg Fire Department

In the early hours of today, a chemical incident occurred at a hygiene paper manufacturer's production area in Arnsberg, Germany. The Arnsberg city fire department, along with 80 firefighting personnel, 8 rescue service members, and the police with 20 vehicles, responded swiftly to the scene.

The source of the incident was an uncontrolled self-decomposition of a container holding a bleaching agent. This led to strong smoke development and odor formation, prompting the NINA warning to be issued to the public via the NINA warning app.

To ensure safety, a team in chemical protective suits explored the building and a decontamination station was set up. Four deployment sections were formed: initial response/water supply, ABC response, decontamination, and medical rescue.

The symptoms were taken seriously immediately, and all potentially exposed persons were examined by the rescue service. Fortunately, no abnormalities were found. However, one colleague reported minor breathing difficulties post-operation and was taken to the hospital for further examination.

The affected production area temporarily ceased operation but resumed after extensive cleanup. The operator's crisis management actively supported the incident command throughout the operation.

The NINA warning was lifted at 02:45 after a measurement showed no more hazardous concentrations. The operation concluded successfully around 05:00.

The company producing the hygiene paper at whose production site in Arnsberg the chemical accident occurred is not explicitly named in the available search results.

For further questions, please contact the Feuerwehr der Stadt Arnsberg at Alter Graben 15, 97555 Arnsberg, [email protected], or visit their website at www.feuerwehr-arnsberg.de.

We hope for the speedy recovery of the colleague who was taken to the hospital and wish for the continued safety and well-being of all those involved.
