In an effort to enhance fire safety for elderly individuals, particularly those with dementia, Provinzial has partnered with the Association of Fire Brigades in NRW e.V. to provide fire safety kits. These kits, which can be used by both older people and younger adults, are designed to supplement adult fire safety education.

The kits, handed over at a recent event in Wuppertal, consist of a sturdy trolley filled with information and demonstration materials. They include signs with fire safety and rescue symbols, smoke and CO2 alarms, fire extinguishing spray, and an emergency kit. One of the key features is the hob watch, a device that warns of fire danger on the stove, offering additional security for elderly people with dementia.

Christoph Dohr, head of the main department for damage prevention and risk assessment at Provinzial, confirmed the company's support for this initiative. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness of possible risks in daily life, particularly for seniors who may react more slowly, have difficulty seeing and hearing, and may be taking multiple medications with unknown or underestimated side effects and interactions.

Maria Koch, the fire safety education and awareness representative at VdF NRW, underscored the importance of intensifying fire safety education for seniors. She was involved in the handover of the 15 fire protection equipment boxes and highlighted the new fire safety education materials developed by the Association of Fire Brigades in NRW e.V. for seniors.

The Association of Fire Brigades in NRW e.V. can be contacted at Windhukstraße 8, 42277 Wuppertal, or via email at [email protected]. For more information, visit their website at http://www.vdf.nrw.
