Fire Department personnel, including firefighters and the Technischer Hilfsdienst (THW), were called out to battle a blaze at a food manufacturing facility in Elmshorn.

In the early hours of August 14, 2025, a significant fire erupted at a food processing plant located on Westerstraße in Elmshorn. The incident, classified as a FI G (Fire, larger scale), immediately prompted a response from the local fire departments of Klein Nordende and Pinneberg.

The fire department was swiftly alerted to the scene, with the keyword "Fire, larger scale" triggering their immediate response. By 11:30 PM, the fire had already been burning, and firefighting efforts began around 1:00 AM.

The primary focus of the operation has been on preventing the fire from spreading. To achieve this, more than 10 teams of two firefighters have been actively involved in the firefighting efforts. A telescopic loader from the THW is also present at the scene to remove burning material from the building.

To locate the fire source, various parts of the facility have been opened in subsequent operations. The fire department, along with plant personnel, searched and disabled these areas. Despite the challenging conditions, no injuries were reported by the plant personnel. However, one responder complained of circulatory problems but remained at the scene.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are currently unknown, as the fire department cannot provide any information on these matters. The operation is expected to continue into the later morning hours.

Detlef Hartwich, the leader of the fire department involved in the incident, acted as the platoon commander and incident commander. He led the first responders, and the fire department will likely continue to be involved as long as necessary to prevent fire spread, localize the fire source, and conduct careful extinguishing work under respiratory protection.
