Fire in Stürzelberg-Zons, Dormagen: Straw Stack Blaze Under Controlled Observation

A significant fire incident occurred in Dormagen, Germany, on Thursday night. At around 23:45 on August 21, a fire broke out in a straw stack located on Schulstraße in the Stürzelberg-Zons area.

The fire quickly engulfed the straw stack, which measured approximately 3 meters in width and 15 meters in length, and contained about 140 bales of straw. Despite the intensity of the blaze, no injuries were reported, for which the local community is undoubtedly grateful.

Upon receiving the news, the Dormagen fire department, along with units from Stürzelberg, Zons, and the professional fire-fighting unit, promptly responded to the scene. A total of 35 firefighters participated in the operation.

Initially, the decision was made to let the straw bales burn down under controlled observation. This approach was taken to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures and to allow the heat to dissipate safely.

As a precaution, the NINA warning app was activated at 3 AM due to the fire. The warning remains active as of Friday morning (11 AM). The operation is expected to continue until Friday evening.

Concerned citizens reported a strong smoke smell in large parts of the city, a testament to the size and intensity of the fire. However, the firefighters' swift response and strategic approach have ensured that the situation has been managed effectively so far.

As the situation continues to develop, the community remains vigilant, hoping for a quick resolution to this unexpected event. The firefighters' hard work and dedication are truly commendable, and we extend our gratitude to them for their service.
