Fire engulfs a semi-trailer truck on highway A2
On Sunday, September 7, 2025, the Dortmund Fire Department responded promptly to a vehicle fire that occurred on the A2 highway. The incident, which took place at 10:22 AM, involved a car with an attached caravan.
Personnel from Fire Station 9 (Mengede) and Fire Station 2 (Eving) were dispatched to the scene, where they were joined by emergency medical services and the police. The fire department teams used two teams with breathing apparatus to extinguish the blaze.
Special care was taken to handle the gas cylinders stored in the caravan, ensuring the safety of the responders and the public. Foam and a thermal imaging camera were utilised for follow-up operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
Thankfully, the driver of the vehicle managed to escape unharmed. The A2 highway and the exit to the B236 were completely closed during the operation to ensure the safety of other road users.
