"Fire, Magic, and Shadows" – The Young Swabian Wind Ensemble Performs at the Modeon in Marktoberdorf

On Sunday, September 14, at 4 pm, the Swabian Youth Wind Orchestra (SJBO) will perform a captivating concert at the Modeon in Marktoberdorf, Germany. The musical direction will be led by Chief Conductor Dr. Verena Mösenbichler-Bryant, who took over the leadership of the orchestra from Toni Scholl at the beginning of 2020.

Dr. Mösenbichler-Bryant, an Associate Professor of the Practice of Music at Duke University, has an impressive background in conducting. She completed her conducting training with her father, Prof. Johann Mösenbichler, and later studied symphony orchestra conducting with Ingo Ingensand at the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz. She also completed her DMA in wind ensemble conducting in May 2009 from the University of Texas at Austin with Jerry Junkin, and her Master of Music in 2007 with Kevin Sedatole at Michigan State University.

The highlight of the SJBO's performance at the Modeon in Marktoberdorf will be the work "The Lord of the Rings" by Johann de Meij. This epic piece, inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved fantasy series, promises to be a fitting centrepiece for the concert's theme of "Fire, Fantasy, and Darkness".

The SJBO, founded in 1988 by Prof. Karl Kling, is a regional orchestra composed of talented young musicians selected from Swabian music bands. The orchestra has performed at significant events such as the opening of Munich Airport, the 80th birthday of Pope John Paul II in Rome, and the large German Music Festival 2025 in Neu-Ulm.

Before the concert, the SJBO will prepare the program during a one-week rehearsal phase at the "Bildungszentrum Roggenburg". Around 80 musicians will come together for this concert at the end of the summer holidays.

Dr. Mösenbichler-Bryant is not only the Chief Conductor of the SJBO but also the Director of the Duke University Wind Symphony and the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Durham Medical Orchestra. She is also the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Music Department at Duke University.

Unfortunately, there is no information available about who currently leads the Swabian Youth Wind Orchestra when Dr. Mösenbichler-Bryant is not conducting. However, under her leadership, the SJBO is set to deliver an unforgettable performance at the Modeon in Marktoberdorf.
