Fire Outbreak in Dortmund's Northern District

In the early hours of Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the Dortmund Fire Department responded to a basement fire in Stollenstraße. The first responders from Fire Station 1 arrived at the scene at 4:12 AM to find thick smoke pouring from the basement into the stairwell of a multi-family dwelling.

The fire was quickly contained, thanks to the swift actions of approximately 40 personnel from Fire and Rescue Station 1 (Center), Fire and Rescue Station 2 (Eving), Löschzug 25 (Eving) of the voluntary fire brigade, the command service, and the rescue service. A turntable ladder was set up to control the apartments from the outside during the firefighting operations.

During the approximately one-hour operation, two teams of firefighters in breathing apparatus were sent into the basement to fight the fire and into the stairwell for rescue operations. Despite the smoke, several people were led unharmed to safety, and the rest of the residents were able to remain in their apartments during the firefighting operations.

Subsequent ventilation measures and a follow-up check allowed the tenants to return to their apartments after the incident. The Fire Department Dortmund Press Office, headed by Benjamin Ewald, can be contacted for further information at 0231/8455000 or [email protected].
