Firebreak at Homeless Shelter in Pulheim

In the heart of Pulheim-Brauweiler on May 2, a residential fire erupted at a shelter for the homeless. The fire department, along with the voluntary fire brigades of Brauweiler and Geyen, and professional forces from Pulheim, swiftly responded to the call.

Upon arrival, smoke was billowing from a residential unit on the first floor. The firefighting measures were taken through the staircase, leading to a quick resolution of the fire.

During the operation, a staff member of the municipal authority was present to arrange accommodation for the homeless residents who were evacuated. Among those evacuated was a person who was dependent on a wheelchair, and the fire department supported the rescue service in caring for the residents throughout the operation.

A total of 13 people were examined by paramedics and crews of rescue vehicles. Fortunately, no residents were taken to the hospital after the examinations. A dog that was also rescued from the house was initially cared for by the fire department but was later returned to its owners.

The hygiene unit of the Pulheim fire brigade was called in during the operation to clean contaminated clothing and provide replacement clothing. High-performance fans were used to ventilate the building after the fire, and some areas of the building were found to be no longer habitable.

The scene was lit up during the operation, and approximately 50 fire department forces and nine vehicles were deployed for about two hours during the operation.
