Firefighters of Ennepe-Ruhr district are actively responding for a span of seven hours, with a team of 132 personnel.

In the heart of Herdecke, a fire incident took place at the Ewald Dörken AG company on Wetterstraße on Friday evening, around 8:07 PM.

Upon arrival, the fire hall was filled with smoke, and the fire was coming from an oven where plastics were burning. The fire spread through a ventilation system of the production facility and released smoke into the open air through a chimney, prompting a public warning via the NINA warning app about a smell nuisance.

The firefighting operation was led by incident commander, fire chief Michael Tillmanns, who later expressed his gratitude to all personnel for their efforts. District fire chief Martin Weber praised the close cooperation and integration of the fire family and the blue light family of the Ennepe-Ruhr district and neighboring towns.

A total of 9 fire departments from the Ennepe-Ruhr district and surrounding cities, as well as the control center of the Ennepe-Ruhr district, were involved in the incident. However, no firefighting units from other cities in the Ennepe-Ruhr region or neighboring cities were alarmed or present during the firefighting in Herdecke. The incidents involved local responses to a runaway sheep, false fire alarm, and medical emergencies without assistance from external units.

With over 132 personnel on site, the production facility and piping system were gradually opened using tools and saws, leading to effective containment. The fire was extinguished, and its insulation was heavily cooled. The smoke subsided, and the all-clear message was sent via the NINA app for odor nuisance in Herdecke at around 1:19 AM.

During the night, warm and cold drinks, rolls, and chocolate bars were provided for the personnel. Seating and resting areas were also available for them. Representatives of the affected company expressed their gratitude for the reliable fire department.

The fire watch was handed over to the company at 4:40 AM, and the fire department Herdecke cleaned the vehicles and equipment, restoring operational readiness. For inquiries, contact the Fire Department Herdecke Press Office at [email protected] or visit www.feuerwehr-herdecke.de.

Fortunately, no response teams were injured during the incident. The fire chief, Michael Tillmanns, also thanked all personnel for their dedicated work during the operation.
