Firefighters successfully rescue individual on the brink, with barely a moment to spare, as he dangled precariously from a cliff edge.
In a dramatic turn of events on Sunday afternoon, a man was successfully rescued from a precarious position on the cliffs of Mackinac Island.
According to dispatch reports, the man was slipping and could not hold on much longer. The Mackinac Island Police Department, along with the Fire Department, swiftly responded to the scene at around 2 p.m. The Department of Public Works at the water filtration plant also joined the rescue operation, helping to spot the man in need of assistance.
First responders split their efforts, attempting to reach the man from both the top and the base of the cliff. Remarkably, rescuers from below were able to reach the man safely and helped him down a ladder.
Officials have stated that the man is in stable condition, although he is believed to have a broken arm. The man who fell from the cliff has not been publicly identified by authorities.
This is the second rescue on the cliffs of Mackinac this year, and the 10th such incident in the past 15 years. Climbing on the cliffs of Mackinac is prohibited, highlighting the potential dangers of such activities.
The man is reported to have told EMS that he had approximately 10 seconds left before letting go, underscoring the urgency of the situation. The Mackinac Island community is relieved that the man is safe, and the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety and respect for the island's natural surroundings.
