First carbon credits sold from Gevo's North Dakota carbon storage facility
In a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions, renewable chemicals company Gevo has sold its first Carbon Removal Certificates (CORCs). These certificates, which are Puro.earth-certified, will be produced from Gevo's North Dakota-based ethanol production facility.
The North Dakota facility, with an estimated sequestration capacity of up to one million tonnes of CO2 a year, will capture carbon dioxide at its production site. The captured carbon dioxide will then be stored underground in adjacent Class VI wells for safe and effective sequestration.
The global finance and technology corporation, Microsoft, was the buyer of these first CORCs. These carbon removal credits are now ready for immediate use, offering a tangible solution to combat climate change.
