Tesla's Model Y Performance Gets a Makeover

Tesla has announced a revised version of the Model Y, with the Performance variant taking centre stage. The long-wheelbase model, which boasts a 179 mm longer body and a slightly larger battery, is now available in China.

The changes in the pre-production model are noticeable, starting with new 21-inch wheels, a completely black headliner inside, updated brakes, and sports seats. Other visible changes include a new carbon fiber spoiler, performance emblems, modified bumpers front and rear, and adaptive suspension.

One of the most anticipated features of the new Model Y Performance is the introduction of a "Track Mode". This setting is expected to enhance the vehicle's performance capabilities on racetracks.

According to reports from Jay Leno’s Garage via Tesla’s VP of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, the updated Model Y Performance is set to launch in the second half of 2025. The market launch of this revised model is predicted to take place by the end of this year.

The primary goal of the Model Y Performance update is to improve performance and aerodynamics. The new model might produce around 375 horsepower (510 PS) and is expected to have a range of up to 290 miles (467 km). The current top speed of the Model Y Performance remains unknown, but it is speculated that it could exceed 250 km/h.

Technical data for the new Model Y Performance is not yet known. However, it is rumoured that the vehicle might accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour (0-97 km/h) in up to 3.2 seconds.

The sighting of the test vehicle on the Nurburgring in Germany suggests that the release of the Model Y Performance is approaching. Tesla managers Franz von Holzhausen and Lars Moravy had announced earlier in the year that the release was imminent.

Despite the excitement surrounding the Model Y Performance, Tesla has not announced an official release date for the vehicle. Nonetheless, with the improvements in performance and aerodynamics, the revised Model Y is shaping up to be a significant addition to Tesla's lineup.
