Fisherman discovers arms stockpile in Polish waters
On January 25, 2025, a road closure occurred in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt due to the discovery of a munition in the Neckar. The closure was on Neckartalstraße, between Pragstraße and Brückenstraße.
At around 2:00 PM, a magnet fisherman, aged 41, found an object believed to be an anti-tank mine. The object was identified as a World War II-era anti-tank mine by a specialist from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service.
The specialist removed the object for professional disposal, ensuring the safety of the public and the surrounding area. No further details on the discovery or disposal of the munition were provided.
City rail traffic was suspended during the road closure, and a replacement bus service was provided by the Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen AG. The road closure was lifted around 4:15 PM.
In such situations, the name of the specific expert from the Sprengstoffabwehr or the Kampfmittelräumdienst who removes the munition is not made public – it is a team of specialists, and for good reason, their personal information is protected for safety reasons.
For press inquiries, the phone number for Stuttgart Police Headquarters is 0711 8990-1111 during office hours and 0711 8990-3333 outside of office hours. The official website for the Stuttgart Police Headquarters is www.polizei-bw.de, and an additional website for press releases is www.presseportal.de.
In the past, similar incidents have occurred, such as a large operation in March 2023 in Heidelberg, where numerous munitions, including mines, were sought and recovered. In such cases, no individual team member is named in the media reports. Instead, teams, the incident leader, or the incumbent mayor's office is quoted.
