"Florian Wirtz discusses Liverpool's initial struggles in the Premier League following a sluggish start"
Florian Wirtz Prepares for Liverpool Debut Against Burnley
After completing his move to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen, Florian Wirtz is set to face his former opponent, Burnley, in the Premier League this weekend. Wirtz, who has started all four games for Liverpool since his transfer, is eager to score his first goal for the Reds in their upcoming game at Anfield.
The German international made headlines with his goal against Northern Ireland in a World Cup qualifier, a strike that sealed a 3-1 victory for his country. However, Wirtz has yet to find the back of the net for Liverpool, managing only one assist in the Community Shield.
Wirtz was signed by Liverpool for a reported £116 million, making him the first nine-figure deal by the Premier League champions this summer. The young midfielder's arrival at Anfield came shortly after his former team-mate Jeremie Frimpong made the same move.
Despite the pressure of living up to his price tag, Wirtz remains optimistic about his chances of scoring in the next game. When asked about the timing of his first goal for Liverpool, he expressed uncertainty, stating it might take a few more games.
The game against Burnley will be followed by Liverpool's Champions League match against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. Liverpool will then face Everton in a Merseyside derby on Saturday, a week after their match against Atletico Madrid.
Wirtz's debut for Liverpool was not without controversy. In the Premier League match against Leeds United, Wirtz faced his new rival, Leeds' Rodrigo, who he had previously faced in the Premier League a week after his transfer to Liverpool.
In addition to his club duties, Wirtz has also been a target for Manchester City, but he chose to join Liverpool instead. The 20-year-old midfielder has admitted that the Premier League and English football in general are different from what he was used to at Bayer Leverkusen, but he is relishing the challenge.
Wirtz's versatility and creativity on the ball have already made him a fan favourite at Anfield. With his goalscoring record and potential, Wirtz is expected to make a significant impact for Liverpool in the upcoming season.
