Following the conclusion of the Woltemade season, Germany's U21 team secures their victory in the restart.

The German U21 national team began their journey in the 2025 European Football Championship qualifiers with a resounding 2:0 victory over Albania. This was their first match since their heartbreaking loss in the EM final against England last summer.

The match, broadcast on Sat.1, saw five players from the team that played in Slovakia last year starting the game. The team, coached by Antonio Di Salvo, struggled initially due to a lack of coordination, having only had three training sessions prior to the match.

However, the team found their footing in the second half. Dzenan Pejcinovic of Wolfsburg scored in the 52nd minute, securing Germany U21's victory. Just minutes later, Ilyas Ansah of 1. FC Union Berlin added another goal to the tally.

Pejcinovic and Ansah, who both scored, have known each other for a long time, and their chemistry was evident on the field. Ansah praised the offensive quality of the German U21 team, stating that they were a formidable force.

Despite the victory, DFB CEO Bernd Neuendorf stated that the team needs to find its way. He emphasised the importance of maintaining focus and consistency, especially in the upcoming matches.

The team's first serious challenge in the EM qualifiers will come in Rostock on Tuesday, where they will face Latvia. The German U21 team, as favourites, will also face Latvia, Georgia, Greece, Northern Ireland, and Malta in their qualifying group for the 2025 U21 European Championship.

Nine group winners and the best runner-up will qualify for the final tournament. The remaining eight runners-up will play playoffs to determine the last four finalists. The 2025 U21 European Championship will take place in the summer of 2027 in Albania and Serbia.

Di Salvo made almost an entire team debut in the match against Albania, bringing on eight more new players at half-time to see his new squad in as wide a range as possible. The team's performance, particularly in the second half, suggests that they are on the right track.

As the qualifiers progress, the German U21 team will look to build on their opening victory and continue their journey towards the 2025 U21 European Championship.
