In the opening match of the Bundesliga season, VfB Stuttgart secured a hard-fought victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach, with Chema Andrés scoring the winning goal in the 79th minute.

The game was not without its tense moments, as both teams showed determination and resilience. Lukas Ullrich had a good shooting opportunity in the 22nd minute but shot too high, and Alexander Nübel parried Philipp Sander's header from a free kick in the 25th minute.

The departure of key players Nick Woltemade and Enzo Millot during the off-season seemed to have an impact on Stuttgart's offense, leading to sometimes lackluster play. However, the team managed to find their rhythm and capitalised on a set piece to secure the win.

Coach Sebastian Hoeneß described Woltemade's departure as a "heavy loss," but the club has been active in the transfer market. VfB Stuttgart brought in several new players, including Bilal El Khannouss on a season-long loan from Leicester City, Anrie Chase from Salzburg for 2 million euros, Juan Jose Perea on a free transfer from Zurich, Jacob Bruun Larsen from Burnley for 4 million euros, Luca Raimund from Fortuna for 0.4 million euros, Dennis Seimen on loan from Paderborn, Luca Pfeiffer from Elversberg, and Woo-yeong Jeong from Union Berlin for 4 million euros to compensate for the departures.

Meanwhile, Borussia Mönchengladbach failed to score their first goal of the season, with Kevin Stöger missing a chance to score the lead in the 51st minute. The team, who drew 0:0 with Hamburger SV in their previous match, will be hoping to find their scoring touch soon.

Alexander Wehrle, the board chairman, emphasised the club's responsibility to the entire organisation and understands Sebastian Hoeneß's desire to continue working with Woltemade. Sami Khedira, a former VfB midfielder, also believes the club handled the transfer correctly.

Deniz Undav, a key player for VfB Stuttgart, had to be substituted due to a knee injury in the early stages of the match. Wehrle is confident that the club will present good solutions by the end of the transfer period to address any gaps in the squad. The pressure is on to find reinforcements by Monday evening to achieve the set goals, as demanded by Coach Hoeneß.

The victory marks a positive start for VfB Stuttgart in the new season, and they will be aiming to build on this win in their upcoming matches.
