Following Woltemade's departure: VfB leader Wehrle responds to Hoeneß's agitation

In the upcoming VfB home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach, the departure of a key player, Nick Woltemade, continues to cast a shadow over the team. This was discussed by VfB board member Alexander Wehrle on Sky ahead of the match.

Wehrle, who has been working closely with coach Sebastian Hoeneß, acknowledged that they are not starting from scratch. However, the departure of Woltemade, a central offensive player, has already left a significant void in the squad. Enzo Millot, another central offensive player, has also already left Stuttgart.

The buyout sum for Woltemade's departure was reportedly up to 90 million euros, a figure that exceeded the "pain threshold" according to Wehrle. This high price tag was a key factor in the decision, as suggested by Wehrle's statement.

Hoeneß, who has been the head coach despite challenges including player departures like Woltemade's transfer negotiations and the need for squad reinforcements, expressed his frustration about the situation. He had previously defended his comments regarding the departure of Woltemade, stating that he believes he expressed his thoughts about the matter at the previous press conference.

Despite his frustration, Hoeneß understands the club's responsibility to the entire organization. He would have preferred to continue working with Woltemade, but acknowledges that the club's decisions are not always in the best interest of the individual.

As of now, no successor has been signed for Woltemade. Wehrle, however, is confident that good solutions will be presented by the end of the transfer period.

The departure of Woltemade was a significant event, as indicated by Hoeneß's frustration. The coach believes that Woltemade's departure is a significant loss for them, and he expressed his concerns about the matter the day before.

VfB board member Wehrle also understands Hoeneß's frustration. He notes that it's not as if they are starting from scratch, and he is confident that they will find a way to overcome this challenge.

The article was reported by dpa/hen, highlighting the ongoing tension within the VfB Stuttgart club regarding the departure of Nick Woltemade. Despite the challenges, Hoeneß remains the head coach, determined to lead the team through these difficult times.
