Kentucky Lottery Winner James Farthing Arrested Following Florida Bar Fight

James Shannon Farthing, a 50-year-old man who won a record-breaking $167.3 million Powerball jackpot in Kentucky, was arrested in St. Pete Beach, Florida on April 29. Farthing is accused of kicking a Florida police officer during a bar fight at the TradeWinds Resort.

The incident, which occurred hours after Farthing collected his winnings, was recorded on body camera footage from a Pinellas County deputy. The footage shows Farthing kicking the officer, initially cooperating with officers, and then attempting to run away before being tackled to the ground.

Farthing was charged with one felony count of battery on a law enforcement officer and two misdemeanor counts of battery and resisting an officer. His girlfriend, Jacqueline Fightmaster, was also arrested and charged with one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, following reports that she was intoxicated and loudly confronting other guests at the resort.

Farthing's lottery winnings were the largest ever in Kentucky's history, but the details of the lottery game or the exact amount won were not mentioned. Farthing had stated that he would be splitting the winnings with his mother, Linda Grizzle, but there is no information about whether or not he has fulfilled this promise.

The arrest occurred at the TradeWinds Resort, not at the location where Farthing collected his winnings. It is unclear whether the lottery winnings played a role in Farthing's behavior during the incident.

Court records show that Farthing is charged with one felony count of battery on a law enforcement officer and two misdemeanour counts of battery and resisting an officer. His girlfriend, Jacqueline Fightmaster, is being charged with one misdemeanour count of disorderly conduct.
