Football executive Hoeneß relies on support from Middle Eastern sheiks and views Bayern Munich as a championship contender
Bayern Munich's Transfer Strategy Under Scrutiny
In the bustling world of football transfers, Bayern Munich's strategy is making waves. Uli Hoeneß, the club's president, has been vocal about the club's approach, expressing concerns about the escalating transfer fees in the sport.
Bayern Munich has taken a loan option for Nicolas Jackson from FC Chelsea, with a purchase option set in motion after the young player appears in 40 games. Reports suggest that the total package for Jackson could reach up to 80 million euros, although some sources mention a figure of 65 million. The loan fee for Jackson is estimated to be around 13 million euros.
Hoeneß anticipates the arrival of three more players – Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Hiroki Ito – in November, with no transfer fees involved.
The transfer market has been a contentious topic for Hoeneß, who compared it to the Monopoly game, stating that rich sheikhs make it challenging for clubs like Bayern Munich to compete. This sentiment was echoed in the club's failed pursuit of Florian Wirtz and Nick Woltemade this summer. Bayern offered 55 million euros for Woltemade, but Stuttgart wanted 75 million. Woltemade eventually moved to England for almost 90 million, a sum Hoeneß deemed exorbitant, stating that he would never pay such a sum.
Hoeneß's stance on excessive transfer fees is clear; he emphasizes the importance of saying "no" to such deals. He rated Bayern's transfer summer as successful, stating that they are the "actual winner" of the transfer summer due to their strong team.
Despite the disagreements, Hoeneß and Lothar Matthäus have since reconciled, putting aside their differences over the Woltemade transfer. Bayern has also secured the permanent signings of Luis Díaz, Jonathan Tah, and Tom Bischof.
The current Bayern team, according to Hoeneß, boasts 15 to 16 strong players. He praises the mix of established professionals and young players in the squad, noting that this blend is crucial for the club's success.
However, Hoeneß remains tight-lipped about the contract extension for loan player Nicolas Jackson, choosing to focus on the present and the future of Bayern Munich.
