Football prodigy Arch Manning falters at the goal line, tosses interceptions as Texas's opening game turns disastrous

In the opening game of the season, Texas Longhorns' quarterback Arch Manning faced a tough test against Ohio State. The highly-touted freshman started the fourth quarter with less than 40 passing yards, a stark contrast to the expectations surrounding him.

Manning struggled badly throughout the first half, failing to find his rhythm against the stout Ohio State defense. The Buckeyes' defensive unit proved effective, keeping Manning's throws short and limiting his success. None of his throws during a 70-yard drive leading up to an interception went over nine yards.

The interception, which occurred midway through the third quarter, was a turning point in the game. Manning attempted a deeper throw, which was intercepted by Jermaine Mathews Jr. Ohio State capitalised on the opportunity, scoring a touchdown to extend their lead to 14-0.

Coach Steve Sarkisian appears to be playing conservatively with Manning, perhaps due to the pressure of his first game as the anointed starting quarterback at Texas. This conservatism was evident in the drive leading up to the interception, which included only three throws from Manning.

Despite the struggles, Manning's Offensive Coordinator at the Texas Longhorns, Kyle Flood, remains supportive. With 13:08 remaining in the game, Manning is in a tough spot, but he will undoubtedly look to bounce back and lead his team to a comeback.

The potential interception earlier in the game, which was overturned by a review, could have sealed an Ohio State victory. However, Manning avoided the turnover and kept the game competitive.

As the fourth quarter begins, Manning has yet to score in the offense. He will need to find his form and make the most of his opportunities if he hopes to turn the game around for the Longhorns. The Texas team and their fans will be watching closely as Manning navigates this challenging debut.
