Rio Ave, who were yet to taste victory in the current I Liga, faced Sporting Braga after an impressive victory against Lincoln Red Imps. The match, held on August 31, 2025, saw both teams displaying determination to claim the much-coveted three points.
The encounter between Santa Clara and Estrela da Amadora ended goalless, with both teams struggling to find the back of the net. This was Santa Clara's first point in the I Liga after two defeats, while Estrela da Amadora remained in 12th position.
Meanwhile, Sporting Braga, who moved to sixth place in the league with eight points, started the match on a high note. In the 14th minute, Clayton scored a penalty for Rio Ave after a foul by Gorby on Andre Luiz inside the area. However, Rio Ave's joy was short-lived as Sporting Braga equalised just ten minutes later due to a mistake by Rio Ave in their own area.
Clayton scored his second goal for Rio Ave in the 24th minute, giving them a temporary lead. But Sporting Braga refused to give up and secured their second equaliser in the 88th minute, after a good move, with El Ouazzani scoring the goal.
The second half saw Sporting Braga struggling against a well-organised Rio Ave defence. Firmino thought he had scored for Santa Clara in the 90th minute, but the goal was disallowed for handball by Pereira.
The draw prevented Sporting Braga from staying within two points of FC Porto. Meanwhile, Rio Ave drew for the third time in the league and have three points, placing them 11th.
This was Santa Clara's return to the I Liga after their elimination from European competitions. Estrela da Amadora, on the other hand, drew for the third time in four games. Rio Ave, who played in the Portuguese Primeira Liga during the 2025/26 season, will be hoping to build on this draw and secure their first win in the upcoming matches.
