In a shocking turn of events, an Armenian Foreign Ministry employee named Ashkhen Aleksanyan has been detained on charges of state treason. The arrest, which was initially kept secret by authorities, reportedly took place nearly two months ago at the Yerevan Zvartnots Airport upon her return to Armenia.

Ashkhen Aleksanyan, who served as the Armenian consul in Austria, held a high-ranking position within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and had access to important information. During the interrogation, she admitted to taking money from the Azerbaijani side and not acting alone. 'Documents were found on the young woman', and she was suspected of spying for Azerbaijan.

The full-day search conducted at the Armenian Foreign Ministry following her arrest reportedly uncovered extremely important documents. The authorities refuted the reports that other ministry employees were involved in the case, stating that no data was obtained in this regard during the preliminary investigation.

The Armenian Investigative Committee confirmed the arrest on the same evening and launched a case on 20 June entailing charges of espionage and treason. If found guilty, Aleksanyan could face up to life imprisonment.

The NSS reportedly seized the computers of some other ministry employees, but the authorities denied any other individuals being involved in the case.
