In a significant political development, former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has declared her intention to run for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat in the 2027 elections. The announcement was made during a funeral at Stovar Farm in Kiminini Constituency, according to reports published by The Standard.

Nakhumicha, who is likely to secure the Ford Kenya (FK) ticket due to her close political relationship with the party's Speaker, expressed her readiness to face male contestants for the governor's position. She boasted about her influence in securing Sh600 million for various development programs in Trans Nzoia during her tenure as CS.

The announcement comes in response to a political plot by some Kenya Kwanza leaders to dislodge the current governor, George Natembeya, in the next polls. According to sources close to one of the gubernatorial aspirants, President Ruto and Moses Wetang'ula are also working on strategies to achieve this.

Sikhendu Member of County Assembly Andrew Kutitila has accused some local politicians of working with external forces to have Governor Natembeya impeached. This accusation follows a recent scheme to implicate Natembeya in corruption, which has reportedly failed.

Nakhumicha's decision to run for the governor's position is noteworthy, as she had previously expressed no interest in the county women's representative seat. The politics surrounding the burial of a local leader, Mutoka, included accusations against local politicians and mention of early campaigns by Dr. Wamalwa and Bisau, who are also running for the same position in 2027.

The race for the Trans Nzoia governorship is shaping up to be a fierce contest, with Nakhumicha, Chris Wamalwa, and Kiminini MP Maurice Bisau all vying for the coveted seat. Nakhumicha's entry into the race signals a potential bruising political battle ahead.
