In a recent online study titled "Diversity Founders - Levers and Hurdles in the Founding Process", it has been revealed that diversity is a central theme in 60.5% of organisations participating in the German Social Entrepreneurship Monitor. This research also shows that over half of these organisations have systematic diversity management in place, and 60.5% employ individuals with a migration background.

The study further indicates that 80.9% of social enterprises in Germany are co-founded by women, and in management roles, 62% of social enterprises are led by women. This highlights a positive trend towards gender equality in the impact entrepreneurship sector.

However, the study also underscores the need for urgent action to increase diversity in foundations in Germany. Access to capital is a significant challenge for social enterprises whose returns are primarily of a social nature. The long-term integration of impact entrepreneurship into existing funding strategies is lacking, making it difficult for these organisations to thrive.

The call to action includes sharing stories, discussing recommendations, joining discussions, contributing as an organisation, and sharing founding stories on "Found Without Borders". Additionally, using the hashtag #FoundWithoutBorders and joining the LinkedIn group Found Without Borders is encouraged.

The study recommends that startup promotion should not only target average biographies, but rather actively encourage, support, and structurally promote founders from all social groups. Organisations and initiatives that are actively supporting and promoting the founding of impact-oriented enterprises in Germany include the Volkswagen Foundation, the Plattform für Soziale Innovationen, and consultancies like the Fundraising Agency Zielgenau.

The growing field of impact entrepreneurship, with 45.6% of founders focusing on social entrepreneurship and 48.1% in the green economy (based on the Startup Monitor 2024), could help Germany better tap into its founding potential. However, many talents, including women, people with a migration background, young people, and individuals from non-academic households, continue to struggle, fight, or are currently denied access to the German startup ecosystem.

Impact companies in Germany are contributing to empowerment and equal opportunities for minorities. By actively involving employees in strategic decisions, as reported by 72.6% of surveyed companies, these organisations are fostering an inclusive culture and paving the way for a more diverse and equitable future.
