In a series of events that transpired on May 22, 2025, a young couple found themselves in the custody of the Federal Police in Magdeburg. The news of the arrest was transmitted by the Federal Police Inspectorate Magdeburg, who are contactable for further inquiries via phone at +49 (0) 391-56549-505, email: [email protected], and on Twitter @bpol_pir.

The couple's legal troubles began earlier in the year. In February, the Potsdam Public Prosecutor's Office issued an arrest warrant against the woman, while her companion was subject to an arrest warrant issued by the same office in April of the same year.

The events leading to their apprehension began at Aschersleben station, where the couple was checked by the Federal Police. Upon discovering the outstanding arrest warrants, the officers took the couple into custody and initially brought them to the Federal Police's premises at Magdeburg Central Station.

The man's legal troubles were not limited to the recent arrest warrant. He had also failed to pay a fine and a detention warrant was issued against him in another ongoing case due to his repeated unexcused absence from the main trial dates.

The woman, who was previously sentenced to a fine of 150 euros or 10 days' imprisonment for theft by the Stendal Local Court in March 2024, had neither paid the fine nor served the sentence. In March 2024, the Local Court of Rathenow also convicted the woman of theft of low-value items, imposing a fine of 200 euros or 10 days' imprisonment. She, too, ignored this penalty.

However, a turn of events occurred when the woman's mother paid the imposed fines and procedural costs, totaling 1260 euros, for the couple at a police station. This action allowed the woman to leave the Federal Police's premises at 23:02.

The man, on the other hand, spent the night in the central police detention facility and was brought before a judge at the Local Court of Rathenow the following Friday afternoon. The judge confirmed the arrest warrant, and as a result, the officers took the detainee to a prison.

The search results do not provide information about the head of the Federal Police Inspectorate Magdeburg on the day the alleged thieves were caught in 2025. The 20-year-old man was previously sentenced to a fine of 300 euros or 30 days' imprisonment for armed theft in multiple offenses with theft of low-value items by the Local Court of Rathenow.

The incident serves as a reminder of the consequences of ignoring legal proceedings and the importance of complying with court orders. The Federal Police Inspectorate Magdeburg continues to work diligently in maintaining law and order, and they can be reached for any further inquiries.
