Four individuals, believed to be pickpockets, were apprehended over the weekend.
In a series of events over the weekend, four individuals were arrested in the cities of Cologne and Leverkusen on suspicion of pickpocketing. The arrests took place on both Saturday and Sunday, 30th and 31st August.
On Saturday evening, at approximately 22:50, two pickpockets, aged 18 and 26, were witnessed committing a pickpocketing act near the Cologne Cathedral. No further details about the victim or the stolen item have been released.
On Sunday afternoon, at around 15:40, two women aged 19 and 39 were stopped in Leverkusen for attempting to steal an 82-year-old man's wallet on "An der Fuchskuhl" street. Their escape, along with three other men (aged 16, 17, and 20), failed.
Meanwhile, in Cologne, a 18-year-old suspect failed to discard a stolen phone, leading to his arrest. The victim of the pickpocketing was a 48-year-old man.
In a separate incident in Leverkusen, a 26-year-old Moroccan suspect, who shielded the act and had no fixed address in Germany, was placed into investigative custody on Sunday. The suspect was driving a VW Polo with false license plates, which was stopped and secured by officers. The car was occupied by four individuals, all aged between 16 and 39, who were also arrested.
Investigations have been initiated on all five occupants of the car, who are from Bosnia and Herzegovina, on suspicion of illegal residence. The 17-year-old driver of the car could not produce a valid driver's license.
The arrests in both cities highlight the ongoing efforts by the police to combat petty crimes and maintain public safety. The investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
