Fourteen forest blazes in the region of Yakutsk
After a series of intense forest fires, Yakutia, a republic in eastern Siberia, is making significant strides in extinguishing the blazes. As of July 7, the special fire prevention regime remains in place, imposing restrictions on visiting forests.
The fires have been extinguished in several districts, including Abyisk, Verkhneviluisk, Gorny, Kobayask, Lensky, and Neryungrinsky. These efforts involved 1,759 people and 70 units of equipment, with aviation being utilised in the operations.
In a day, Yakutia managed to extinguish 11 forest fires covering 7,527 hectares. However, 115 forest fires covering a total of 326,000 hectares and 1 landscape fire covering 6,839 hectares are still active in the republic. These active fires are affecting 19 municipalities.
Among the active fires, 14 near populated areas are receiving priority attention. The head of the operational headquarters for combating forest fires in Yakutia, Vladimir Solodov, is leading the efforts. The extinguishing of these forest fires was reported by Minister of Ecology, Nature Management and Forestry Yevgeny Perfilyev.
Unfortunately, no new data has been provided regarding the number or size of forest fires currently active in the republic, the total area of forest fires still active, or the number of municipalities affected by the fires. Additionally, no new data has been released about Minister Yevgeny Perfilyev's role or statements, or the number of forest fires discovered through aviation and space monitoring.
Another 18 forest fires covering 3,155 hectares were discovered through aviation and space monitoring. Despite the ongoing challenges, the efforts to control and extinguish the forest fires in Yakutia continue.
