France arrests park manager denying access to Israelis visiting the park

In a recent development, a group of 150 young Israeli tourists faced a setback during their visit to France. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, has sparked global outrage and raised concerns about discrimination.

The tourists, who had made a reservation in advance, were refused entry at an activity park in Porte-Puymorens, western Pyrenees. The manager of the park, currently under investigation, is reported to have denied them entry due to his 'personal convictions.' If charged with discrimination, the manager faces up to three years in prison.

This incident comes at a time when Israeli tourists have been facing reactions, including protests, in various countries. Last month, hundreds of pro-Palestinian Greeks staged protests at the Greek islands of Crete and Rhodes, against the arrival of Israeli cruise ships.

The Israeli cruise ship Crown Iris was a target of such protests in Greece last month. The incident in France adds to the growing list of incidents where Israeli tourists have faced hostility.

The Interior Minister of France, Bruno Retailleau, described the incident as "serious," expressing concerns over such acts of discrimination.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been a contentious issue for years, with Israel's actions in Gaza drawing global criticism. Since March 2, 2025, Israel has closed all crossings into Gaza, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid and worsening conditions for the 2.4 million people living in the enclave.

The relentless bombardment by the Israeli army has destroyed the enclave and led to a famine in Gaza. The Israeli army has reportedly killed over 62,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza since late 2023.

The incident in France and the ongoing situation in Gaza have led to a surge in reported antisemitic incidents in France. In 2023, the number of antisemitic incidents soared to 1,676, before dipping to 1,570 the following year. In 2022, the interior ministry reported 436 antisemitic incidents.

The district court investigating the manager of the southern French amusement park is located in Otterndorf. The case is still under investigation, and further updates are expected in the coming days. The group of Israeli tourists, however, changed their plans and traveled to another site in France.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing tensions between Israel and Palestine, and the need for dialogue and understanding to address the complex issues at hand.
