Front-runner for Social Democrat nomination maintains lead in Bucharest mayoral polls
In the upcoming mayoral elections in Bucharest, the Social Democrat (PSD) mayor of District 4, Daniel Baluta, is currently leading in the polls, according to two separate polls conducted by CURS and INSCOP.
Under both scenarios designed by INSCOP, Baluta is expected to win over 26% of the voters, while the Liberals' candidate Ciprian Ciucu, currently serving as District 6 mayor, would get nearly 24% of the votes. Interestingly, in the CURS poll, Catalin Drulă (USR) would place second with 20% of the votes, just 4 percentage points behind Baluta. Ciucu and Drula would be closely followed by Cristian Popescu Piedone (PUSL) and Ciprian Ciucu (PNL), each getting 11% of the votes, according to the CURS poll.
The candidates potentially proposed by the far-right party AUR would get 21%-22% of the votes, making them a significant contender in the race. George Simion, the AUR president, is seen as only marginally better placed than Anca Alexandrescu, who is the main supporter of far-right nationalist presidential candidate Calin Georgescu, in terms of votes. Anca Alexandrescu would get 9% of the votes in Bucharest, Mihai Enache (AUR) would get 6%, Diana Şoşoacă (SOS Romania) would get 5%, Vlad Gheorghe (DREPT) would get 3%, and Ana Ciceala (SENS) would get 3%, according to the CURS poll.
The race for the mayoral elections is tight, and the centre-right parties having a sole candidate might significantly change the election outcome, according to the INSCOP poll carried out for the Liberal Party (PNL). However, the search results do not provide information about which parties might collaborate with the center-right alliance for the upcoming elections or about the INSCOP poll predictions affecting the Liberal Party’s outcome.
In a hypothetical election for the General Council of Bucharest Municipality, USR would get 24% of the votes, PSD would get 21%, and AUR would get 18%. The PNL would get 14% of the votes for the General Council, POT would get 7%, PUSL would get 6%, SOS Romania would get 5%, REPER would get 4%, and other parties would get 2%.
As the election date approaches, the race for the mayoral seat in Bucharest is shaping up to be a close contest between the leading candidates. With the polls showing a tight race, it remains to be seen which candidate will emerge victorious.
