Fueling Creativity: Bolt's Accelerator Program Ignites Innovation Among Kenyan Transport Workers
The Bolt Accelerator Program, a significant stride in fostering entrepreneurship within Kenya's gig economy, concluded recently at the Sarova Stanley Hotel. The program, launched in partnership with The Nest Innovation Technology Park, aimed to foster innovation among Bolt's drivers and couriers.
Over 800 applications flooded in from Kenyan drivers and couriers, showcasing the untapped potential within the ride-hailing and delivery sectors. After rigorous selection, 120 aspiring entrepreneurs were chosen for the Bolt Academy, where they received comprehensive business skills training.
The program offered a seed fund of $2,228 (over KES 280,000) to each winning entrepreneur. The award ceremony revealed the top 10 most promising ideas, with Teddy Muthami Muriithi being recognised for the Best Pitch, Adrian Kagiri Amunga awarded the Most Innovative Idea, and Antony Gwaro Nyangaresi receiving the Most Scalable Idea award.
The diverse range of ideas presented illustrates a multifaceted approach to solving urban mobility challenges. The winners will also participate in a 6-week post-mentorship program, providing guidance, mentorship, and access to a network of industry experts.
Oluwajoba Oloba, Co-Founder of The Nest Innovation Technology Park, emphasised the significance of such programs in driving innovation and entrepreneurship in Kenya.
