Fugitive high-stakes gambler apprehended
In a series of events unfolding in Thailand, 69-year-old Amnuay Kiatdonmuang, also known as "Pa Nuay Don Muang", is scheduled to appear in Dusit District Court on Monday. Amnuay, an underground gambling den operator, has been wanted on eight warrants issued by the Don Muang District Court and the Criminal Court.
The latest twist in this saga involves allegations of forgery. Amnuay, along with his wife, Manee, and her brother, Suthat, have been charged for fabricating a death certificate. The certificate, submitted under their names, claimed that Amnuay had died from coronary artery disease in October 2024. However, the hospital seal and doctor's signature on the certificate were found to be fictitious.
The forgery was allegedly part of a plan to fake Amnuay's death. After the raid on a major gambling den in Don Muang, where 176 gamblers were arrested, Amnuay fled. He was eventually caught at a noodle shop on Rama IV Road in Bangkok.
Manee and Suthat were arrested in Chiang Rai due to their alleged involvement in illegal activities or criminal charges related to the case surrounding Amnuay. No information was provided about the current status or location of Ms. Manee and Mr. Suthat.
Amnuay admitted to having run gambling dens for most of his life. He has been in prison six times previously. In a recent apology to the police, Amnuay expressed fear of potentially dying in prison during this latest arrest and expressed regret for the impact of his repeated arrests on their careers.
It is unclear what the potential consequences for Manee and Suthat will be in relation to the forgery charges. The case continues to unfold in the Thai courts.
