Fugitive high-stakes gambler apprehended evading authorities
In a dramatic turn of events, notorious gambling kingpin Amnuay Kiatdonmuang was apprehended at a noodle shop on Rama IV Road in Bangkok on Saturday. The 69-year-old, also known as "Pa Nuay Don Muang," has been evading authorities for quite some time, wanted on eight warrants issued by the Don Muang District Court and the Criminal Court.
Amnuay Kiatdonmuang's arrest comes after his wife, Manee, and her brother, Suthat, were charged by the police in Mae Fa Luang, Chiang Rai on August 27, 2025, for their role in a plan to fake Amnuay Kiatdonmuang's death. The forgery involved creating a falsified death certificate, claiming that Amnuay Kiatdonmuang had died from coronary artery disease in October 2024.
The forged death certificate, however, was discovered to be fabricated. Both the hospital seal and doctor's signature were found to be fictitious, indicating that Amnuay Kiatdonmuang is still alive. The purpose of the forgery was to deceive authorities and potentially evade Amnuay Kiatdonmuang's arrest.
Amnuay Kiatdonmuang has a long history with the law. He admitted to operating gambling dens for most of his life and has been in prison six times in the past. His most recent legal issues led to a major gambling den raid in Don Muang, resulting in the arrest of 176 gamblers.
Following his arrest, Amnuay Kiatdonmuang expressed concerns about his health. He stated that he lost more than 30 kilogrammes during a past prison stint and fears another imprisonment could lead to his death. He also apologised to the police for affecting their careers due to his repeated arrests.
Ms. Manee, 39, and her brother, Mr. Suthat, were charged for creating the falsified death certificate. The charges against them are related to Amnuay Kiatdonmuang's ongoing legal issues and arrests. They are set to appear in court soon.
Amnuay Kiatdonmuang is set to be brought to Dusit District Court on Monday following his arrest on Saturday. The suspect was tracked down to a residence in Bang Pahan district, Ayutthaya.
This latest development in the saga of Amnuay Kiatdonmuang's criminal activities underscores the ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to combat organised crime and maintain law and order in the country.
