Fundraising initiative launched for American victims of stabbing incident on Line 7 subway train
In the early hours of Sunday morning, a shocking incident unfolded on a Dresden tram. An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), who had been working as a rescue assistant for a year and a half, was the victim of a knife attack.
The 20-year-old victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained a deep facial wound and other injuries during the attack. Fortunately, the victim's life was never in danger, and they are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Two men from a group were reportedly harassing women on the tram before the incident. The main suspect of the attack, a 20-year-old Syrian, was arrested on Friday after he called emergency services and disclosed his location. The preliminary arrest of another 21-year-old Syrian suspect took place early in the morning on August 26.
However, it appears that the initially arrested suspect may not have been directly involved in the attack. The 21-year-old Syrian man was released due to lack of grounds for detention. The organiser of a fundraising campaign for the victim's medical expenses and ongoing care, set up on GoFundMe, is reportedly the girlfriend of the injured EMT's brother.
As of late Monday evening, around $24,000 had been donated for the victim's medical expenses and ongoing care through the fundraising campaign. The community's support for the victim has been overwhelming, and the fundraising campaign continues to grow.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to gather more information and ensure justice is served. The public is asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
