Future Volkswagen ID.Cross Concept Unveils Electric Vision for T-Cross SUV Model
Volkswagen Unveils ID. CROSS Concept, Previewing Future Electric SUV
Volkswagen has added another electric car to its lineup with the announcement of the ID.2, also known as the production model of the ID. Cross. The German automaker showcased the ID. Cross Concept at the IAA Mobility show, giving a glimpse into the design and features of the upcoming electric SUV.
The ID. Cross Concept is based on the MEB modular electric drive matrix, a platform that will be continuously developed into the MEB+, with improvements to engines, batteries, and software. The new ID. Cross Concept features a state-of-the-art drive system, with an electric drive motor developing 155kW (211 PS) and powering the front wheels.
The ID. Cross Concept's interior is designed as a feel-good oasis, featuring high-quality materials, fabric-covered surfaces, and pre-configured light, sound, and climate modes. The multifunction steering wheel has been redesigned, and the two central displays are arranged on a visual axis. Real plants in the visually floating center console and plant motifs on the screens enhance the feel-good effect in the ID. Cross Concept's interior.
The ID. Cross Concept's innovative cockpit ensures focused attention while on the road, with well-thought-out ergonomics, intuitive operation, natural voice control, and buttons for direct functions. The interior transforms into a lounge-like environment with a warm beige color scheme (Vanilla Chai).
The ID. Cross Concept's seats can be folded down completely to create a reclining area, reminiscent of a VW Bus. The vehicle also boasts an innovative package making the interior very spacious with an above-average boot volume of 450 liters and an additional compartment of 25 liters under the bonnet.
The ID. Cross Concept's ball coupling is designed to handle a drawbar load of 75 kg, allowing it to transport two e-bikes, and its maximum trailer weight is up to 1,200 kg (braked, 8 per cent gradient). The WLTP range forecast for the new ID. Cross Concept is up to 420 km (261 miles).
Following the ID.2, the ID. GTI Concept, and the ID. EVERY1, the ID. Cross Concept is the fourth small electric concept car in Volkswagen's lineup. The production versions of these new models will be on the market from 2026, with the world premiere of the new ID. Polo, the production version of the ID.2, set for the first half of 2026. The final ID. Cross will have its world premiere in the summer of 2026.
The ID. Cross is aligned with Volkswagen's recent strategy to name electric ID models after popular gasoline-powered vehicles. The ID. Cross is positioned as a small SUV, hinting at what the future electric version of the popular T-Cross will look like. The ID. EVERY1, which will also be in concept car form, will be a highlight of 2027.
The chief developer responsible for the development of the ID. Cross Concept is not publicly named in the available information. However, the concept reflects a new, clear, and likeable design language called 'Pure Positive'. The ID. Cross Concept is 4,161 mm long with a 2,601 mm wheelbase, 1,839 mm wide, and 1,588 mm tall, similar in size to the current T-Cross.
In conclusion, the ID. Cross Concept offers a glimpse into Volkswagen's future electric lineup, with its spacious interior, innovative features, and SUV design. With a range of up to 420 km and the ability to transport two e-bikes, the ID. Cross Concept is shaping up to be a strong competitor in the electric SUV market.
