Gambit's Distinctive Accent on Display Again: Channing Tatum Discusses Shaping His Voice for Upcoming Avengers: Doomsday Role

In a thrilling turn of events for Marvel fans, Channing Tatum's portrayal of the charismatic mutant, Gambit, is now available to stream on Disney+, following his debut in the 2024 film, Deadpool & Wolverine.

Tatum, who played Gambit after a long-held dream to produce a solo film centered around the character, found it challenging to formulate the character's distinctive southern accent. He aimed for accuracy, given Gambit's Cajun lineage, and his efforts have been mostly well received.

In Deadpool & Wolverine, Gambit was a central character, known for his spicy speech pattern. After surviving a post-credits scene, Tatum's Gambit will reprise his role in Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled to open in theaters on December 18, 2026.

In Avengers: Doomsday, Gambit will interact with characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his conversations with Red Guardian are highly anticipated. Interestingly, Tatum's version of Gambit will not go full Cajun in the upcoming movie.

Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios have included Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday, marking a significant expansion of the X-Men universe within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tatum's Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday will primarily serve for narrative exposition, a role confirmed by Tatum himself. He noted that the character's distinctive accent could be a confusing but important storytelling tool.

If you haven't seen Deadpool & Wolverine yet, you can stream it on Disney+ with a subscription. Disney+ offers two plans: an ad-free plan at $15.99 a month, or a yearly subscription at $159.99 with a 16% discount. There's also an ad-supported plan at $9.99 a month.

In other news, Channing Tatum has a 2025 movie release, Roofman, set to hit cinemas on October 10. Until then, Marvel fans can look forward to Tatum's return as Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday.
