Tragedy in Flushing: Murder Investigation Underway After Shooting in Illegal Gambling Den

A violent incident has shaken the quiet neighbourhood of Flushing, Queens, after a shooting in an underground gambling room left one man dead and another wounded.

On December 19, 2024, Yun Li, a 37-year-old man from Flushing, was fatally shot in the head during a botched robbery in the basement of a Haight Street building. He was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery and listed him in critical condition. Despite their best efforts, Li passed away four days later, and his death was labeled a homicide. A second man, 42 years old, was also shot during the incident. He was wounded in the cheek and transported to the same hospital.

The suspects involved in the shooting are still at large. As of December 31, 2024, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) continues to search for three suspects wanted in connection with the botched robbery. No information has been provided on possible identities of the suspects, but officers are believed to have checked surveillance video near the crime scene in an attempt to trace them.

The shooting took place in a gaming room, and violence is rare in these establishments. However, when it occurs, it causes fear among residents, workers, and business owners. Residents near the crime scene have reported the presence of underground gambling rooms in the neighbourhood.

Nationwide, police have warned that illegal gambling can lead to violent crime. In light of this incident, some residents are considering moving out. A local cabinet maker, for instance, has announced his plans to leave the area due to the recent violent incident.

Law enforcement agencies are investigating connections between the illegal gambling operation in Flushing, Queens, and individuals involved in organized crime. However, specific organizations or persons linked to the murder of Yun Li on December 19, 2024, and suspected additional shootings have not been publicly disclosed.

The suspects were last seen entering a white SUV near the crime scene, and a woman was also seen in the vehicle. The SUV may have sustained damage in the front end, according to police. If you have any information that could help the NYPD in their investigation, please contact them immediately.

The shooting has left the Flushing community in mourning and on edge. Our thoughts are with Yun Li's family and friends during this difficult time. We will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
