GatesAir to Showcase 5G Transmission Through UHF Channel at IBC2025 Event
GatesAir, a leading global provider of wireless, over-the-air content delivery solutions for broadcast and other wireless applications, is set to exhibit its groundbreaking 5G passthrough technology at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam.
During the event, which takes place at the RAI Amsterdam from September 12-15, GatesAir representatives will be available at stand 8.B75 to discuss both 5G and traditional terrestrial waveforms.
Last year, visitors to the stand were assessing the possibility of offloading broadcast content to UHF frequencies within the next 5-10 years. This year, GatesAir is prepared to assist broadcasters when the time arrives for UHF frequency offloading, particularly in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region where trials are being pursued.
The new 5G passthrough technology employs 5G modulation within GatesAir's Maxiva XTE exciter. This innovative technique can be applied to GatesAir's Maxiva ULXTE, UAXTE, and OP Series of UHF transmitters. With this technology, live TV content can be sent to a smartphone across the 5G waveform, allowing consumers to receive, decode, and view content on the same mobile devices they already use.
Adopting UHF frequency allows broadcasters to avoid using valuable mobile spectrum, ensuring 5G exclusivity for voice and mobile cellular use. GatesAir's 5G delivery across UHF channels is a significant step towards the future of broadcasting, providing a seamless and efficient way for broadcasters to adapt to the evolving landscape.
Moreover, GatesAir's Maxiva transmission products are built for standards-agnostic transmission, meaning broadcasters can adopt 5G delivery without needing to replace their existing transmitters. This flexibility and adaptability are key advantages of GatesAir's 5G passthrough technology.
At IBC2025, GatesAir will also showcase its 5G passthrough demo, providing a hands-on experience of this revolutionary technology. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about how GatesAir is helping broadcasters prepare for the future of 5G broadcasting.
