General Motors' previous executive's son, known TSLA critic Gordon Johnson, discloses the information about his family background.
In a curious turn of events, Wall Street analyst Gordon Johnson, known for his anti-Tesla stance, has a familial connection with automotive giant General Motors (GM).
Gordon Johnson began his relationship with GM during his school years, working as a co-op student. After graduating from Hawken School in 1980 at the age of 17, he landed his first official job at the Fisher Body plant in Euclid.
However, the nature of his family ties with GM has been a subject of debate. Initially, Johnson claimed his father worked for GM, but he later admitted it was his step-father who retired from GM in 2002. Johnson's step-father was a long-time executive at the company.
In a tweet that was later deleted, Johnson expressed his love for GM, citing the company's treatment of his family. However, in an updated statement, he revealed a different perspective, stating that his father dislikes GM due to their handling of his pension.
The internet archive has preserved this deleted tweet, providing evidence of Johnson's family ties with GM. Interestingly, there is no publicly available information indicating that a family member of Johnson currently or previously worked at General Motors.
Gerald Johnson, the current executive vice president of global manufacturing at General Motors, bears a striking resemblance to Gordon Johnson, but there is no confirmed relationship between the two. Gerald Johnson has been with General Motors since 2006 and has moved up the ranks.
Johnson's low price target for Tesla has become a unit of measure among Tesla fans, known as "a Gordon" or "$20". His bearish stance on Tesla has earned him a reputation as one of the worst analysts, ranked in the bottom 5% on TipRanks.
In a 2014 interview, Johnson mentioned having 7 kids aged 14 to 22. In an attempt to cover up his admission about his family ties with GM, Johnson deleted a tweet.
Despite these connections, it remains unclear how Johnson's personal history with GM influences his professional analysis of the company.
