Generous Donation for Hamburg Cinemas: "Expressing Gratitude"
The Hamburg Film Prizes 2025, an annual event honouring program and neighbourhood cinemas, took place at the Film Art Theater magazine this year. The ceremony was presided over by Senator for Culture Carsten Brosda (SPD).
The Hamburg Film Prizes were endowed with 100,000 euros by the cultural authority, and an additional 100,000 euros was provided by the budget of the MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein. This extra funding, known as the Moin Kinobonus, was introduced this year to provide additional support to cinemas.
A total of 16 program cinemas and initiatives in the Hanseatic city were awarded at the Hamburg Film Prizes 2025. These included the Abaton Kino (Rotherbaum), the 3001 Kino (Sternschanze), the Zeise Kinos (Ottensen), the Studio Kino (Altona-Altstadt), B-Movie (St. Pauli), Koralle Lichtspielhaus (Volksdorf), the Alabama Kino (Winterhude), the Blankeneser Kino, the Elbe Kino (Osdorf), the FilmRaum (Eimsbüttel), Lichtmeß (Ottensen), the Magazin Filmkunsttheater (Winterhude), the Savoy Filmtheater (St. Georg), Passage das Kino (Altstadt), and the SchanzenKino73.
Senator Brosda thanked the makers for their dedicated work in the program and neighbourhood cinemas, praising their efforts in creating a diverse and innovative program cinema landscape. Helge Albers, Managing Director of Moin Film Funding, expressed gratitude for the extraordinary film repertoire, creative formats, and passion shown by Hamburg's cinemas in the past program year.
The Moin Kinobonus aims to support cinemas like these, recognising their significant contributions to the cultural life of Hamburg. The Hamburg Film Prizes serve as a testament to the city's vibrant cinema scene and its commitment to nurturing and celebrating independent and innovative cinemas.
